TWELVE TO WATCH IN 2008 - John Daly Irish Examiner 2nd January 2008

Who are the Ryanair’s and CHR’s of tomorrow? In an Irish business environment where the last twelve months have proved challenging for many companies, there are still many growing and vibrant enterprises who take a decidedly bullish view of the coming year and beyond. Some are relatively small with just a few years in existence, others are larger operations which have grown through a combination of careful expansion and technological advances. All of them have one thing in common - an upbeat and optimistic outlook on their own prospects within their own sectors. All of them are companies with a current annual turnover measured in millions, and all are well on the road to achieving a multiple of this figure within the next five years. Chosen for their bright prospects and the imprimatur of Enterprise Ireland, they are companies already well on the fast track to further national and international success. Some you will have heard of, others will be known mainly within their own fields - yet all are driven with a similar desire to one day become an Irish brand name built on profitability and innovation.

Softtrace is a leading developer of cost effective traceability and quality management solutions for a wide range of industries, including dairy, beverage, pharmaceutical, health care and independent laboratories. The company was formed in 2002 and is currently implemented in over 20 sites across Ireland, UK and the US. In 2006, the company received research and development funding from Enterprise Ireland of €157,000 to help finance a project that will focus on the redevelopment of existing products to harness up-to-date technologies and functionalities available in the latest versions of their preferred development tool, Magic. Having carried out extensive R&D over the last four years working with existing clients and researching target markets, softtrace have identified this project as a key focus on its success into the future. Other areas of improvement will include, system security and licensing control, systems userability, version control management, and support & deployment procedures.

“We would see 2008 as being a very good year for us, definitely,” says Managing Director, Eamon O’Mahony. “We have a lot of developments in the pipeline at present which should come through over the coming year. The result of this would be extra employment and an expansion into overseas markets. We have done some groundwork onexpanding into the North American market and would hope that would become a reality within 2008, this would involve the development of some new strands and areas of that market. Our market advantage is the ability to provide totally integrated solutions at production level, basic traceability from start to finish within one system. There are few other companies tying everything together as we do, and this is our target market. Our ambition for the company in the years ahead would be to be known as a market leader in our area of expertise.”

An Alliance to Benefit the US Dairy Industry

8th June 2007 - softtrace, the Cork based quality and risk management specialist, today announces that it has signed a channel partnership agreement for the US Dairy market with Metron Instruments. Under the agreement Metron, based in Cleveland, will sell and implement the softtrace suite of traceability software in the US. Metron Instruments provides On-Line standardisers and lab instrumentation for beverage and milk component measurement. Through the On-Line instrumentation family of standardisers, Metron has provided complete standardisation analysis, application engineering, installation and service expertise to cheese, juice and milk producers for almost 30 years. Metron's president, David C. Anderson, will shortly visit softtrace office in Cork for advanced training on the system.

softtrace selected Metron as channel partners because of the company's track record, complimentary product range, excellent technical personnel, sales and customer service staff and streamlined operations.

The decision to enter into a partnership with Metron Instruments is the culmination of extensive research into the US dairy industry which continues to grow rapidly every year. In tackling the US market for its suite of traceability software, softtrace will focus initially on the major cheese manufacturing companies (in the states of Wisconsin and California , as well as Idaho , New York and Minnesota ) that face complex supply chain, raw material management, quality control and traceability issues. Having worked hard on developing the product in collaboration with food industry experts, softtrace has turned its attention to sales and delivery. softtrace already has a large installed user base throughout Ireland and UK including many industry leaders and innovators, such as Glanbia, Dairygold, FMC, Newmarket , and Lakeland Dairies. Over the next three years the company's management team plans to accelerate international development by expanding its delivery capacity as well as identifying and working closely with product and channel partners.

Anthony Connolly , of softtrace, welcomes the agreement: “We are one of the few software companies in the world that can guarantee traceability from farm to fork. Our customers agree that the softtrace suite delivers a rapid payback through increased revenues, headcount reductions, superior plant management capabilities and improved delivery performance – and we can readily demonstrate that to prospective customers. We welcome the opportunity to partner with Metron as an aid to tapping into the huge potential for our business in the US market. With their 30 years of experience, large customer base, and their focus on improving product quality, yields and efficiency for customers in their production and laboratory operations, Metron is perfectly placed to market softtrace to the US dairy market.”

According to David C. Anderson, Metron Instruments, “the softtrace suite of software modules will offer companies in the US with the opportunity to radically improve their quality management practices and enhance consumer confidence. Food safety is at the top of the industry's agenda and the softtrace suite is an innovative solution to a pressing problem and an excellent market opportunity. We look forward to working with softtrace to explore new opportunities for their traceability solutions in the US ."

Dairygold Food Ingredients pilot softtrace in Mitchelstown cheese manufacturing plant – January 22 nd 2007.

Dairygold Food Ingredients (DFI) signed an agreement earlier this month to complete a pilot project which will see them install the softtrace InProcess module into their cheese manufacturing facility in Mitchelstown, Co. Cork .

The softtrace InProcess module is used to interface with existing process automation instrumentation and monitor and report on plant efficiencies within the manufacturing process.

This pilot project will see softtrace interface with the existing process automation systems to record test results and usage and present this data within the production plant via SPC Graphs located throughout the facility. These graphs will be updated with real-time data to provide the production operators with instant information on which they can make vital, proactive production decisions.

It is hoped that, following the successful implementation of this project, further softtrace modules will be implemented to close any traceability gaps and further assist DFI to maintain their high levels of quality and production management, while improving plant efficiencies and enhancing operational efficiency and profits.

Mr Mark Leith, Production Manager in Dairygold's Mitchelstown plant, said;

"After viewing the softtrace solutions in other cheese operations, I was impressed by, not only the completeness of the traceability and quality chain, but the instantaneous access to quality & production data. This access will allow us to make proactive operational decisions during production which in turn will help us to reduce our production costs and to optimise our daily production output.”

It is expected that this project will go live by the 28 th of February, 2007.
